About Gas
Gas is one of the three states,or phases of matter. The other two are liquide and solide. Outof all three phases gas is the least dense phase of matter. Themost common gas is air. Gas is used in daily life. For exampleit is used for cooking and heating, cars, lanterns, and etc.
Fuel Gas
Fuel gas is a colorless, fiery, gaseous organic compound. If you put fire to the fuel it wouldbe able to make great fire. The heat energy is used for many steadyreasons. Fuel gases contain oxygen and nitrogen.
Fuel gas was once worshippedas a spirit, by the Zoroastrians. They were fire worshippers. In 1900, when a temple was torn down by the chinese, a pipe wasfound that led natural gas to an altar from a crack in the rock. After that the chinese the gas to use. They put the gas throughhollow bamboo poles and removed salt from water by heating thewater with burning gas.
The three types of fuel gasesare natural gas, manufactured gas, and liquified petroleum gas.
Natural Gas
The form of natural gas beganmany millions of years ago when water covered most of the earth. As the water moved, billions and billions of tiny plants and livingcells came together into a kind of organic mud and went down hundredsof feet into the earth. During the years from all off the heatand pressure from the earth the organic mud turned into gas. Thegas then stayed in layers of rocks, sand, and soil and the onlyway it did come out was through cracks in the earth's surface.Years after people noticed the gas and drilled holes to take thegas out.
Manufactured gas
The four kinds of manufacturedgas are coal gas, water gas, producer gas, and acetylene.
Coal gas is made by heatingcoal without any air. The solide is changed into a gas then issent down to some pipes that are in big tanks, that are calledgasholders. In the early 1900's, coal was distributed throughgas mains to homes and factories.
To make water gas, steam isforced through white coals. A chemical reaction ta
